Prank Call Reveals Average Clinton Voter? ::
by R. Frank | R. Frank's bio | As I watched Larry
King gaze into Bill Clinton's eyes during his interview on CNN this evening....
I couldn't help but think of the Howard Stern bit I happened to catch
this morning as I was sampling various stations on the dial. A prank caller
from the Stern Show called a 75 year old woman and posed as the x-President. The most interesting part- this woman (big Clinton supporter- now in more ways than one, or so she thought)... hung up STILL BELIEVING SHE HAD TALKED TO THE X-PRESIDENT. She even answered his out-of-breath "please whatever you do, don't tell anybody about this" request with a hearty "No sir, Mr. President- this is between you, me and GOD." Is this your average Clinton voter? Of course I'm not suggesting that most Democrats would reciprocate to Bill like this for all the "good" the x-Prez accomplished during his 8 long years,... but what if Hillary called? The underhand slow-pitched soft-ball, no-pressure interview with the self-congratulating, pat-myself-on-the-back and get-defensive-about-my failure-in-Korea Clinton interview with Larry King was hard to stomach. Are questions about body guards who had the scoop on any of Bill's innumerable affairs and committed suicide by shooting themselves in the back (twice) too hard to ask? I'd much rather see Clinton on HardBall with an admitted Liberal, Chris Matthews, throw at least some fast-pitch soft-balls at him. I couldn't figure out Tom Joiner's presence at the interview, at first. Then I realized that he was there to assist Clinton in labeling the G.O.P. as racist by discussing how the black community is "getting kicked in the teeth right now by the current administration". That's a quote by the way- check the transcript. Speaking of transcripts, it will be interesting to see whether or not rocket scientist Bill Clinton's statement about the space shuttle Columbia will be properly quoted in CNN's web transcript. He said that the Columbia's "problems happened at 205,000 square feet...". Wow, I've been scouring the papers for the last decade or so, and I wasn't aware that prominent Democrats ever made mistakes. -R. Frank
