Alright Bill, Now That's Quite Enough!

-Frank Salvato

Bill Clinton, in his typically divisive and fictionally incorrect nature, had the gall to suggest that the Republican Party is being hypocritical for rebuking Senator Trent Lott about his insensitive comments on race. ``How can they jump on him when they're out there repressing, trying to run black voters away from the polls and running under the Confederate flag in Georgia and South Carolina?'' Clinton said Wednesday in New York. ``I mean, look at their whole record. He just embarrassed them by saying in Washington what they do on the backroads every day.''

Let’s state at least a few truths for the record here. Shall we?

Fact. While Strom Thurmond may fly under the Republican banner at this stage of

his life he ran under the banner “Dixiecrat” in 1948. Now let’s say this all together, “Dixiecrat – Democrat”. Is anyone else getting the message or is it just me? Perhaps we should all take a good look at which party was extremely popular in the South during the tumultuous time of the Civil Rights Movement. Was George Wallace, a Governor of Alabama and an avowed segregationist, who was determined to defy federal orders to integrate Alabama schools, who in June 1963, blocked two black students from entering the University of Alabama, but relented when President Kennedy federalized the Alabama National Guard a Republican? No, he was a Democrat. Was Lester Maddox, a Governor of Mississippi and a man who gained notoriety in 1964 when he drove American-Africans from his restaurant in defiance of federal civil-rights legislation and then closed it rather than desegregate it a Republican? No, he was a Democrat. For that matter, a Republican hasn’t held the office of governor in the State of Georgia in decades until this past election. With all this refreshed in peoples minds how truthful are the statements made by Bill Clinton about Republicans and the South? Not very.

Fact. The Republican Party, the very same one that President Bush belongs to, is the party of Abraham Lincoln, the President who died because he championed the American-African cause in the 1860’s. He died for it and his party still remembers it. The Republican Party was born in the North and of the people who created and maintained the underground railway during the Civil War and who created the movement of Reconstruction during and after the Civil War.

Fact. The original Ku Klux Klan was organized by ex-Confederate elements to oppose the Reconstruction policies of the radical Republican Congress in order to maintain “white supremacy.” The Klan was particularly effective in systematically keeping black men away from the polls, so that the ex-Confederates gained political control in many states throughout the South. So when Bill Clinton claims that the Republican Party stands for keeping the “black voter away from the polls” I must site the fact that the Republicans have always championed the rights of the American-African and all her citizens and point out that many a Union soldier, both white and black, championed by the New Republican Party and those of a similar mind set and opposed by the liberal South, died for the freedoms of people of every color and religion. I have to stand up and call Mr. Clinton an out and out liar!

Fact. The Republican Party stands for, and always has stood for, the right for the common person, no matter the skin color or religious belief, to be left to their own devises, to freely pursue happiness and embrace the opportunity to succeed without government interference. In other words, less government, something that the Democratic party and especially those who believe in the Clinton Era could never tolerate although they claim to embrace tolerance.

Fact. Strom Thurmond and Trent Lott are elected by the people of their state, not the Republican Party as a whole so if Mr. Clinton has a problem with them why doesn’t he go to South Carolina and Mississippi and preach his false echoes of an era gone past there instead of lying to the people of New York? Why? Could it possibly be that he has a hidden agenda? No! Not Honest Bill, who didn’t commit perjury! Not honest Bill who didn’t blatantly lied to the American people on national television!

Fact. Anyone who lives in a metropolitan area can tell you the horror stories of Democratic precinct captains lining up school buses to ferry homeless and under-privileged American-Africans to the polling places. The Democrats then say that they have done them a great service by affording them the right to vote. What the national media doesn’t tell you is that they only ferry those in who admit that they are going to vote Democratic and if it takes a bit of persuading well, there’s always a few bucks in it for them. They will say that this is a lie but I know it for a fact, anyone who lives in a metropolitan area and keeps their eyes open during the week that precedes an election knows that they do it but this is something that the press labels “unsubstantiated”. I would imagine that is because no reporter from their staffs would want to hang out in alleys and abandoned buildings all week to find out about it because it wouldn’t be getting the big story that sells the papers.

So as you can see, the remarks by Bill “Honest Bill” Clinton are so outrageously false that by anyone’s standards they should never have been said, let alone picked up on by the mainstream media. Yet, these racially divisive comments have once again made it to the mainstream media and to the American kitchen tables to be read. It’s a shame that the mainstream media caters to such manipulating, win-at-all-cost and dishonest politicians such as Mr. Clinton, his wife, Terry McAuliffe and those who count themselves among the Clinton faithful.

I wonder what would happen to the Democratic media tag line that the Republican’s are against the American-African voter if these truths were ever to be understood by the American-African community as a whole? I am sure it would shake the very foundation of the modern Democratic Party. But as long as the Democrats maintain control over the misguided mainstream media these truths shall remain silenced and the right to the freedom from manipulation, the right to the truth and the right to be respected that the American-African community deserves will remain denied.

Congratulations Mr. Clinton. You have used the American-African people again and they don’t even know it. I guess they don’t call you “Slick Willy” for nothing.
