THE GURO STOPS ON HERE ON KERRY'S OVAL OFFICE DESK
PTD COMMENT >
If Kerry is elected, God forbid, would anyone be (really) surprised if he proposes transforming the "EU" into the "GU" (Global Union) and suggesting the U.S. enter therein?

Would you really?

OK, NOW I'LL TUNE IN.
NEW YORK, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- In what may be a surprising move to some political circles, Democratic Presidential Candidate Senator John Kerry (D-Massachusetts) has issued an invitation to former Democratic Primary rival Rev. Al Sharpton to address this summer's Democratic National Convention in Boston.

"YEEEAAAHHH!! I HAVE A SCREEN!!!!"
Dr. Phil could soon be sharing the Paramount lot with another doc: Howard Dean.

While everything's still in the early talking stages, the former Democratic presidential candidate is mulling the idea of hosting his own syndicated gabfest. He's hooked up with ex-Big Ticket TV topper Larry Lyttle ("Judge Judy") and longtime political consultant Gerald Rafshoon, who would likely serve as exec producers of a pilot for any such project.

WE'RE ABOVE THIS
VIDEO footage of US soldiers torturing Iraqi prisoners of war horrified America yesterday.

The TV stills showed a hooded captive standing on a box with wires attached to his hands, and naked prisoners stacked in a human pyramid while jeering troopers look on laughing.

Six soldiers now face court martial and jail. One allegedly boasted that the captives "broke within hours". Seven others, including a general, are suspended from duty and may be disciplined.

PTD COMMENT > DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS ARE WARRANTED. BUT LET'S NOT FORGET WHAT THEY DO WITH THE YOUNG AMERICANS THEY GET A HOLD OF. AT LEAST WE'RE NOT DRAGGING THEIR BURNED BODIES THROUGH THE STREETS, HANGING THEM FROM A BRIDGE, AND THEN LAUGHING AT THEM.

KERRY'S IN TROUBLE. EVEN LIBERALS THINK HE'S A JOKE.
With the air gushing out of John Kerry's balloon, it may be only a matter of time until political insiders in Washington face the dread reality that the junior senator from Massachusetts doesn't have what it takes to win and has got to go. As arrogant and out of it as the Democratic political establishment is, even these pols know the party's got to have someone to run against George Bush. They can't exactly expect the president to self-destruct into thin air.

With growing issues over his wealth (which makes fellow plutocrat Bush seem a charity case by comparison), the miasma over his medals and ribbons (or ribbons and medals), his uninspiring record in the Senate (yes war, no war), and wishy-washy efforts to mimic Bill Clinton's triangulation gimmickry (the protractor factor), Kerry sinks day by day. The pros all know that the candidate who starts each morning by having to explain himself is a goner.

IS THIS MICROPHONE OFF? WELL, ABC IS A RIGHT-WING...
PTD COMMENT > The lanky, leather-faced French botox user that's running for prez blames the two tapes of himself making conflicting statements (re: Vietnam war medals) on the Republicans. IS THE BOOK ABOUT KERRY? BECAUSE THIS IS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF... OH FORGET IT!
Former President Bill Clinton's memoir, "My Life," will be published in June, according to a statement from his publisher, Alfred A. Knopf.

"My Life," according to Knopf president and editor-in-chief Sonny Mehta, "is a riveting personal drama as well as a fascinating look at the American political arena over the past four decades. ... It is the fullest and most nuanced account of a presidency ever written."

"I'VE MADE IT VERY CLEAR: I DIDN'T SAY I THREW MY MEDALS AWAY, I SAID I THREW THE MEDALS THAT WERE MINE AWAY"
Contradicting his statements as a candidate for president, Sen. John Kerry claimed in a 1971 television interview that he threw away as many as nine of his combat medals to protest the war in Vietnam.

"I gave back, I can't remember, six, seven, eight, nine medals," Kerry said in an interview on a Washington, D.C., news program on WRC-TV called Viewpoints on Nov. 6, 1971, according to a tape obtained by ABCNEWS.
Throughout his presidential campaign, Kerry has denied that he threw away any of his medals during an anti-war protest in April 1971.

Calling it a "phony controversy" instigated by the Republican party, Kerry said on Good Morning America today that he has always accurately said what took place. "I threw my ribbons. I didn't have my medals. It is very simple."

GUYS LIKE THIS MAKE A FOOL OUT OF SISSIES LIKE SEAN PENN
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former NFL player Pat Tillman was killed Thursday while serving as an Army Rangers soldier on a mission in southeastern Afghanistan, Pentagon officials have told CNN. He was 27.

Tillman, who walked away from a $3.6 million contract as a safety with the Arizona Cardinals to join the military after the Sept. 11 attacks, was in an area where numerous U.S. troops have been killed in battles with suspected al Qaeda and Taliban fighters.

I DON'T OWN MY SIX GARGANTUAN MANSIONS, MY FAMILY DOES
Does John Kerry, who supports higher automobile fuel economy standards, own a gas-guzzling SUV? He does, but says it belongs to the family, not to him.

During a conference call Thursday with reporters to discuss his upcoming jobs tour through West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan, the Democratic presidential candidate was asked whether he owned a Chevrolet Suburban.

"I don't own an SUV,'' said Kerry, who supports increasing existing fuel economy standards to 36 miles per gallon by 2015 in order to reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil supplies.

Kerry also has made rising gasoline prices an issue in the campaign against President Bush. In Houston on Thursday, Kerry said the president broke a 2000 campaign pledge to "jawbone'' oil-producing nations by pressuring them to increase their output.

Kerry thought for a second when asked whether his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, had a Suburban at their Ketchum, Idaho, home. Kerry said he owns and drives a Dodge 600 and recently bought a Chrysler 300M. He said his wife owns the Chevrolet SUV.

"The family has it. I don't have it,'' he said.

FROM DRUDGE:

STATION OWNER CLAIMS: AIR AMERICA 'BOUNCES CHECK'; LIBERAL RADIO NET TAKEN OFF IN LOS ANGELES, CHICAGO AFTER ONLY TWO WEEKS
Wed Apr 14 2004 16:18:43 ET

After just two weeks on the air, Air America Radio, the fledgling liberal talk-radio network featuring Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo, appears to have encountered serious cash-flow problems.

The CHICAGO TRIBUNE is developing a story, insiders tell DRUDGE, on how the network was pulled off the air this morning in Chicago and Los Angeles, the network's second- and third-largest markets, because, the owner of both stations said, the network bounced a check and owes him more than $1 million! A charge the network strongly denies.

A Chicago source familiar with the situation said a Multicultural representative showed up at WNTD's offices Wednesday morning, kicked out Air America's lone staffer overseeing the network's feed to the station from New York, switched over to a Spanish-language feed, and changed the locks on the doors...

Air America filed a complaint Wednesday in New York state Supreme Court charging Multicultural with breaching their contract and seeking an injunction to force Multicultural to restore the Air America broadcast on both stations.

George Clooney has penned an op-ed saying that people should judge his father, not George Clooney, in Nick Clooney's run for Congress.

TIME FOR A CHANGE IN PA
Republicans will be focused on Pennsylvania come November because capturing its 21 electoral votes almost certainly would mean a second term for President Bush. Conservatives, however, have reason to tune in to the state a lot sooner.

On April 27, GOP Sen. Arlen Specter, Pennsylvania's notoriously liberal pain in the trunk, will face conservative challenger Pat Toomey in a primary contest. A Toomey upset, say many on the right, would be a shot across the bow and send an important message to other "moderate" darlings of the Washington press corps: Continue to undermine your caucus--and for the past three years, your president--and you, too, might pay a political price in the form of a primary challenge.

MY COUSIN IN UNIFORM

I mentioned my cousin, Kevin Carmony, in the PTD blog a couple of weeks ago. He recently left Camp Victory in Kuwait, headed to Iraq in a convoy. His last day of travel will be the most tense, as they travel close to Fallujah. He is headed for a town about 40 miles north of Baghdad.

The latest news is that is that Kevin's convoy is at a standstill about 90 miles south of Baghdad. They are waiting for the 1st Cavalry to clear the way for them. They have heard some firefights but have not yet been involved. Kevin and his buddies are asking everyone back home to pray Psalm 91 for them. Here's a piece of that most encouraging Scripture:

"If you make the Most High your dwelling -
even the Lord, who is my refuge -
then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent ...

"He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him."

WILL LIBERALS TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN FAILURE HERE OR BLAME IT, AGAIN, ON SOME RIGHT-WING CONSPIRACY?

Air America. "Rush Limbaugh can sleep soundly. For now," said the Minneapolis Star-Tribune after this liberal talk radio network's debut. Critics agreed that Al Franken, who leads the programming, needs to sharpen up: Howard Kurtz called him "meandering and discursive," the Boston Globe said "he is not a good interviewer," and the New York Times thought his mix of "mockery and mild indignation" proved the difficulty of matching "the fervor and ferocity of right-wing radio." Right-wing radio hosts were happy to agree: Jay Severin claimed "audience demographics" would be "the death knell" for liberal talk, and in the Los Angeles Times, Richard A. Viguerie and David Franke questioned Franken's commitment (he has a one-year contract), reminding that the conservative talk empire "was the result of decades of hard work." Franken did win praise for high-powered guests—but the New Republic noted that it "doesn't bode well" when a show's "most entertaining segment is one featuring Al Gore."

Speaking of rap and hip-hop, I encourage PTD readers to check out MTV's "Pimp My Ride." Hosted by rapper Xzibit, the show chronicles extreme car makeovers, such as a junky Oldsmobile turned into karaoke machine on wheels, complete with suede seats and ceiling, two DVD screens and Playstation 2.
