NEW YORK NEWSDAY'S Jami Bernard REVIEWS 'PASSION'... ONE STAR

No child should see this movie.

Even adults are at risk.

Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" is the most virulently anti-Semitic movie made since the German propaganda films of World War II.

It is sickening, much more brutal than any "Lethal Weapon."

A video smuggled out of North Korea reveals conditions at one of the prison camps that the communist state denies exist:

* Men with bare heads and women wearing scarves despite below-freezing temperatures, harvesting cabbages and hauling heavy loads. The women try to eat some of the cabbage but must stop when an armed guard nears.

* Men and women carrying canisters of human waste slung from a pole across their shoulders.

Keep in mind that these poor souls are "political prisoners," kept on the verge of starvation and forced to mine for iron ore. And the United Nations and liberals in our own country turn a blind eye, too busy criticizing the detention of terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay.

NUMBER ONE: KERRY RANKED 'MOST LIBERAL' IN SENATE ROLL CALL VOTES, TOPS KENNEDY, CLINTON

NATIONAL JOURNAL on Friday claimed Democrat frontrunner John Kerry has the "most liberal" voting record in the Senate.

The results of Senate vote ratings show that Kerry was the most liberal senator in 2003, with a composite liberal score of 96.5 -- far ahead of such Democrat stalwarts as Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton.

NATIONAL JOURNAL's scores, which have been compiled each year since 1981, are based on lawmakers' votes in three areas: economic policy, social policy, and foreign policy.

It is the exact opposite, you doofus! The Clinton administration installed a thug and then underwrote the thug with never-ending American assistance that obviated the people from having to learn how to support themselves down there. FCC CLEANSING OF THE AIRWAVES: BACKLASH IN BUSH'S DIRECTION?

PTD COMMENT:
Bubba the Love Sponge has been axed by Clear Channel... Multiple radio programs this morning, including trash peddlers Howard Stern and Orlando's Monsters of the Midday began using a phrase we predict will be used extensively by the Democrats in their attacks on Bush: references will be to the frightening "POLITICAL CLIMATE" that has developed under this administration.

Don't underestimate this threat to Bush's reelection chances. These radio programs boast an unfortunately high number of uneducated voters as loyal listeners. Nationally-syndicated Stern has been often credited with swining NY's governorship to Pataki. This morning Stern said that he will do everything in his power to see that Bush is replaced.

Clear Channel Communications was fined nearly a million dollars by the Federal Communications Commission because of remarks and actions on Bubba's show. Commissioners said the show was indecent. After that incident, the FCC warned Clear Channel it would consider taking away 98 Rock's radio license if there was any further instances of indecency. Bubba was also taken to court by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals for the on-air butchering of a pig.

AND THE FUN BEGINS...
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush took the offensive on his re-election campaign Monday, casting Sen. John Kerry as a waffler and warning that the Democrats would raise taxes, expand the government and fail to lead decisively on national security.

Previewing his principal re-election theme, Bush made national security the centerpiece of his revamped re-election speech, explicitly invoking the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. He questioned the credentials of the Democrats who want his job.

IT'S YOUR CHOICE...

From Boortz:

You're trying to chose a Commander in Chief of America's armed forces who, for the next few years, we lead our armed forces as they fight World War IV, the war against Islamic Terrorism. Here are your two choices:

A: A man who's military service consists first of serving in the Air National Guard where he earned exemplary ratings from his superiors as a military leader and as a jet fighter pilot; and who then served for four years as the Commander in Chief of America's armed forces. During those four years as Commander in Chief he built the morale and strength of the U.S. armed forces; decimated the ranks of the Islamic terrorist organization that attacked America on 9/11, and liberated two countries -- freeing millions of people from tyranny in the process. A man, by the way, who has and will continue to have the respect and admiration of the men and women who serve our country in uniform.

B: A man who went to Vietnam as a Naval officer suffered three flesh wounds, two of them minor, wrote some of his own commendations for Purple Hearts, and upon the receipt of his third Purple Heart immediately asked to be sent back to the United States. Time in Vietnam? Four months. After discharge from the Navy this man became a radical opponent of the action in Vietnam, testifying before congress of various atrocities committed by American servicemen there which, admittedly, he did not witness. This man then voted against virtually every major Pentagon weapons program during his tenure in the U.S. Senate. He does not have and never will have the respect and admiration of the men and women who now serve our country in uniform.

ON "THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST"

My latest column is up at OpinionEditorials.com, on the real reason Mel Gibson's film about Jesus is so despised by the media and intellectual elite:

Crucifixion? Gee, Pass the Popcorn

I must admit to my irritation about the hubbub over this film. It hasn't even been released.

On one end of the spectrum, you have Protestant churches acting as if it's the Second Coming, buying blocks of tickets without a single comment that "Passion" is the product of not only a devout Catholic, but a Catholic who doesn't even agree with Vatican II. On the other end, a number of Jewish leaders are denouncing this film and Gibson's father as if the family were singlehandledly responsible for the Holocaust. It's a movie about Jesus, not a movie about the Holocaust.

Besides, the only other stuff at the box office is "Eurotrip" and "50 First Dates." I'm not exactly counting out my pennies to see those pieces of poop.

Now that I think about it, though, "Welcome to Mooseport" is opening, and Ray Romano is hilarious ...

PTD COMMENTS > WE THINK WE CAN ANSWER CNN'S QUESTION...

Clark decided one day that he would call himself a Democrat... Ironically after applauding, aligning with, and voting for Republicans.

A few days later, he jumped into the Democratic presidential race, ostensibly at the bequest of Billary Clintons. As was, and is, the standard MO for Democratic presidential candidates, Clark began bashing Bush, not only after he had showered accolades on Bush and praised his administration to high heaven.

The resolute general then said he 'might have' voted for the Iraq war resolution. Then, a day later, he said he definitely would not have.

After the pandering, waffling, and pancake flipping during the primaries, voters began sensing that Clark knew as much about politics and foreign affairs as most of their friends who don't follow politics and don't know what 'foreign affairs' means. IT'S JUST A HUMBLE THEORY, BUT THAT'S PROBABLY WHY CLARK DIDN'T 'CLICK'.

I had a good time at Guantanamo, says inmate
By Rajeev Syal

An Afghan boy whose 14-month detention by US authorities as a terrorist suspect in Cuba prompted an outcry from human rights campaigners said yesterday that he enjoyed his time in the camp.

Mohammed Ismail Agha, 15, who until last week was held at the US military base in Guantanamo Bay, said that he was treated very well and particularly enjoyed learning to speak English. His words will disappoint critics of the US policy of detaining "illegal combatants" in south-east Cuba indefinitely and without trial.

In a first interview with any of the three juveniles held by the US at Guantanamo Bay base, Mohammed said: "They gave me a good time in Cuba. They were very nice to me, giving me English lessons."

Mohammed, an unemployed Afghan farmer, found the surroundings in Cuba at first baffling. After he settled in, however, he was left to enjoy stimulating school work, good food and prayer.

"There's no way it would have ripped that way," fumed Sam Hill, the female manager of DeMask, a dungeon-like store in Chelsea that sells whips, masks, studded collars, harnesses and scary-looking rubber sex aids.

THE BEST IN BOTOX AND WAFFLES
"Thank you for contacting me to express your opposition ... to the early use of military force by the US against Iraq. I share your concerns. On January 11, I voted in favor of a resolution that would have insisted that economic sanctions be given more time to work and against a resolution giving the president the immediate authority to go to war."

--letter from Senator John Kerry to Wallace Carter of Newton Centre, Massachusetts, dated January 22 [1991]

"Thank you very much for contacting me to express your support for the actions of President Bush in response to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. From the outset of the invasion, I have strongly and unequivocally supported President Bush's response to the crisis and the policy goals he has established with our military deployment in the Persian Gulf."

--Senator Kerry to Wallace Carter, January 31 [1991]

On Guard!
by Frank Salvato
Terry McAuliffe came right out and said it and John Kerry alluded to it. The DNC position, from the mouth of McAuliffe, is that the service of those who choose to serve in the National Guard is somehow inferior to those who enlist in the active armed services. This has to come as a stinging slap in the face to the National Guard personnel who are deployed in Iraq at this very moment. From this one instance it is clear how the Democrats plan to wage their campaign against George W. Bush, the McAuliffe way. (more)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Speaking Thursday at the National Prayer Breakfast, President Bush praised U.S. troops for exhibiting compassion and religious tolerance as they help rebuild Iraq.

Bush lauded the work of the American military, saying the war and its aftermath have shown the world "the kind of people America sends forth from our towns and neighborhoods to serve in freedom's cause."

NOT JUST TREE TRUNK-FACED AND FRENCH, BUT ALSO GOLD-DIGGING AND FREELOADER
ONE of the surest ways to get the phones ringing on any Massachusetts talk-radio show is to ask people to call in and tell their John Kerry stories. The phone lines are soon filled, and most of the stories have a common theme: our junior senator pulling rank on one of his constituents, breaking in line, demanding to pay less (or nothing) or ducking out before the bill arrives.

The tales often have one other common thread. Most end with Sen. Kerry inquiring of the lesser mortal: "Do you know who I am?"

A DISGUSTING IMPLICATION

Only from the mouth of John Kerry:

“I’ve never made any judgments about any choice somebody made about avoiding the draft, about going to Canada, going to jail, being a conscientious objector, going into the National Guard.”

Yep, that's right. Kerry is implying that joining the Guard is on par with fleeing to Canada, avoiding the draft or going to jail.
SHUT IT, LEFTIES

This hullabaloo over Bush's military record is silly. An article over at FactCheck.org sheds some light. Deserter? Hardly.

Highlights:

The fact is Bush was honorably discharged without ever being officially accused of desertion or being away without official leave.

After graduating from Yale in 1968, Bush escaped conscription and possible combat duty in the then-raging Vietnam War by getting into the Texas Air National Guard. During the next four years Bush served the equivalent of 21 months on active duty, according to the Globe account, including more than a year of flight training. The Globe quoted Bush’s flight instructor, retired Col. Maurice H. Udell, as saying "I would rank him in the top 5 percent of pilots I knew.”

The Globe also said:

Those who trained and flew with Bush . . . said he was among the best pilots in the 111th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron. In the 22-month period between the end of his flight training and his move to Alabama, Bush logged numerous hours of duty, well above the minimum requirements for so-called "weekend warriors."

George reported in October 2000:

It's time to set the record straight . . . . Bush may have received favorable treatment to get into the Guard, served irregularly after the spring of 1972 and got an expedited discharge, but he did accumulate the days of service required of him for his ultimate honorable discharge.

The New York Times reported Nov. 3, 2000:

But a review of records by The New York Times indicated that some of those concerns (about Bush’s absence) may be unfounded . . . . A review by the Times showed that after a seven-month gap, he appeared for duty in late November 1972 at least through July 1973.

"HIS BLOOD BE ON US"

It's being reported that Mel Gibson plans to delete a scene from "The Passion of the Christ" in which the Jews say of Jesus' crucifixion, "His blood be on us and on our children."

I find this disappointing. Gibson has made every effort to bring the story of Jesus' crucifixion to the big screen, careful to be as faithful to the Gospel accounts as possible, and he's taking out a direct quote from the Gospels. I realize the line has been misused and abused in the past, and many Jews find it offensive. Still, I think Gibson should stay the course and keep the scene in. The mature viewer will receive it with the right spirit.

I'm a Christian, and I certainly don't blame Jews for the death of Christ. He chose to die on the cross. The world collectively shares the guilt. Anyone who blames Jews for Jesus' death is slapping Christ in the face, implying that His decision to die on the cross wasn't really His decision.

THIS MAN ISN'T FIT TO RUN A DAIRY QUEEN

Howard Dean, the Brainiac of the Democratic presidential nominees, had this to say about Janet Jackson's breast-baring finale of the Super Bowl halftime show:

"I find that to be a bit of a flap about nothing," the former Vermont governor said. "I'm probably affected in some ways by the fact that I'm a doctor, so it's not exactly an unusual phenomenon for me."
DID THEY REALLY SAY THESE LINES?

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."
- President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
- President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

"Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face."
- Madeline Albright, Feb. 18, 1998

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has 10 times since 1983."
- Sandy Berger, Clinton's national security adviser, Feb. 18, 1998

"We urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs."
- Letter to President Clinton, signed by Sens. Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry and others, Oct. 9, 1998

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology, which is a threat to countries in the region, and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
- Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."
- Madeline Albright, Clinton secretary of state, Nov. 10, 1999

"There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has invigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies."
- Letter to President Bush, signed by Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL) and others, Dec. 5, 2001

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them."
- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." - Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"The last U.N. weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons ..."
- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein, because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."
- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct. 10, 2002

"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant U.N. resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do." - Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intel ligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct. 10, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction." - Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime .... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to
miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction. So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real ." - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23, 2003
GOOD POINT

A friend of mine writes:

I may be getting old, but I think it is an insult to the intelligence of people young and old that our media executives and event promoters think the only thing that stirs the passions of the audience is sex. Beyond that, it is an excellent indication of the condition of creativity in America today. Can there be anything easier than just throwing sex out on the table -- sex without context, sex without love, without the dignity sex deserves, for the puerile impact it might have on a public whose tastes and intelligence are apparently deemed no greater than that of an average high-school sophomore? What troubles me is that sex itself has been wronged by these developments. In a big way, sex has been sexually violated, f--cked if you will. It has been led up onto the world stage, slathered in sweat, sequins, leather and glitter, for millions to consume and millions to disdain, leaving it limp and impotent, loveless and empty. I think sex deserves better, better than what I hear on the rap and hip-hop stations, better than what I saw at halftime of the Super Bowl, better than what's on TV tonight, tomorrow night, all week, presumably forever. I would like to see sex go back into the bedroom where it can be beautiful, intimate, soulful, passionate and all exalt in the sensations and fusion of two lovers in the act of imitating, if not performing, the creation of new life.

“President Bush has unilaterally appointed a controversial judge to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Democrats are very angry that Mr. Bush installed Charles Pickering. He’s used what’s called a recess appointment that will last until the next Congress takes office, made when Congress was not in session. Democrats accuse Pickering of opposing civil rights and bringing a conservative agenda to the bench. Senator Kennedy said for the Democrats today, ‘The President’s appointment serves only to emphasize again this administration’s shameful opposition to civil rights.’”
– Peter Jennings on "World News Tonight," Jan. 16, 2004

“At the White House today, President Clinton bypassed Congress and appointed lawyer Roger Gregory to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. Mr. Gregory will be the first African-American on the court. The President has nominated four African-Americans to the 4th Circuit, but Republicans in Congress would not hold confirmation hearings. Now that Congress is not in session, Mr. Clinton used his powers to make what’s called a recess appointment.”

Democrats are counting on Sen. John Kerry's military credentials to convince voters that he can be trusted with America's national security.

But documents that surfaced over the weekend raise serious questions about whether Kerry was duped in the 1990s into helping the Chinese military perfect its ability to strike the U.S. with nuclear weapons. More...

WAIT A MINUTE ...

I must have amnesia. When MTV said Janet would "shock" people with her halftime show, I should have recalled her infamous Rolling Stone cover. You know, the one where a guy is standing behind her cupping her breasts with his hands. Had I remembered, I would have avoided the halftime show altogether. Once you do a magazine cover like that, "shocking" can mean MANY things.
I REALLY BELIEVED THAT IT WAS AN UNEXPECTED 'WARDROBE MALFUNCTION'... NOW I FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT!

(from MTV's original teaser):

HOUSTON — The Super Bowl means just as much to the entertainment world as it does to those who follow sports.

As the big game approaches, one of the top questions along with "Who's going to win?" is "What will Janet Jackson be doing at the halftime show?" But Janet isn't the only celebrity cutie who'll be catching eyes during the MTV-produced AOL Top Speed Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime performance Sunday.

FORGET JANET'S BOOB - WHAT ABOUT KID ROCK?

All the buzz about Janet Jackson's display during the Super Bowl halftime show has obscured another part of the event that I consider just as disgusting: Kid Rock's flag poncho. Real flag, too, ripped in the center and wadded up after his performance. Who cares if this C-list musician sings patriotic songs? How stupid is he to cut up a flag and wear it on stage? Expect veterans organizations and other Americans who remember flag etiquette to, rightfully, pitch a fit.
