MEANWHILE, THE FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION WILL BE WATCHING ANOTHER DUMB SOCCER MATCH FROM SADDAM'S SPIDER HOLE
TIKRIT, Iraq (AP) -- The Super Bowl parties for U.S. troops in Iraq will start hours before dawn, and there won't be any beer. But at least in Tikrit, soldiers have a lavish venue: They'll be watching a cinema-sized screen in a former palace of Saddam Hussein.

NEW HAMPSHIRE ROUNDUP

Check out this writer's recap of the top 10 highlights of New Hampshire. If you only read three, pick "The John Edwards Monotony," "Al Franken, Bouncer" and "Wes Clark, Naked." Pure hilarity.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH

From the MSNBC team: "The economy grew at a 4 percent annual rate in the final three months of 2003 — a slowdown from the red-hot performance of the prior quarter but still compelling evidence of a recovery in full motion at year’s end."

Well, if the economy has to recover, let's whine that it's not recovering as fast as it could.

HEY, KERRY: PLUG IN THE BRAIN, 'K?

John Kerry is saying that the threat of terrorism is exaggerated. Um, where was he on Sept. 11, 2001? France? Under a knife at a Botox clinic? He needs a sabbatical in the Middle East, where terrorism is a threat morning, noon and night.

THE LATE MARY JO KOPECHNE'S FORMER LOVER STUMPS FOR KERRY

From NewsMax:

Ted Kennedy: "When John Kerry turned that boat back and hauled Jim Rassmann out of the water, risking his own life, what he has said: We leave no one behind. He didn't leave Jim Rassmann behind. He won't leave veterans behind. He won't leave our national security behind."

Too bad Sen. Kerry wasn't driving the night Teddy left Mary Jo Kopechne behind.

IN NEXT ISSUE OF ROLLING STONE, JOHN FITZGERALD KERRY WILL ADDRESS F***ING BOTOX QUESTION

Just as the nation was warming to his craggy sincerity, the question is percolating: Did Sen. John Kerry trade in his Abe Lincolnhood for some Hollywood hocus-pocus, smoothing his signature facial furrows with a few discreet pokes of a Botox needle?

"He has absolutely, absolutely not had Botox treatments. You'd think his opponents would have something else to talk about besides John Kerry's looks," his spokeswoman, Stephanie Cutter, said yesterday.

A FEW RANDOM NOTES FROM TONIGHT'S DEBATE...

- Sharpton's line re: John Edwards' millworking father will probably be classic line of the night

- Sharpton's stealing the show with the best lines (again), but being given a pass on his charge that Bush insisted the Iraq threat was "IMMENENT" is reprehensible (Brokaw?)

- Kerry... is that botox dripping out of your newly-smoothed cheek?

- Wes Clark's still trying to define himself as someone other than a talking points recipient and Brokaw's calling him on it.

- Dean... no scream yet, but he's holding his own so far - how uncomfortable to have been positioned next to the that French tree

- Kucinich is blathering about "unilaterlism"... guess he missed W's State of the Union and that crazy long list of countries...

- Simpson's time.

No, but seriously, does Kerry's Botoxgate matter?

No, of course it doesn't. I mean, it's not nuclear secrets to Red China, but it sure is funny. His forehead is "too smooth" for a 60 year old moocher of other men's money. Now, that's funny.

Sperm whale explodes in Tainan City
Blood and guts of 17-meter long 50-ton mammal splatter sidewalks, automobiles parked nearby ...

National Cheng Kung University marine biologist, professor Wang Chien-ping, was on the scene and said he had he instructed the truck driver to move the carcass so the whale could be used for educational purposes and an autopsy could be done.

The beached whale was found on along a stretch of coast in Yunlin County on Saturday.

"The animal was close to death when someone found it beached on shore on Saturday... Because of the natural decomposing process, a lot of gases accumulated, and when the pressure buildup was too great, the whale's belly just exploded and spilled blood and the innards on the street," Wang said.

Iraq Minister Says Saddam's WMD Carefully Hidden

Iraqi foreign minister Hoshiyar Zebari said Thursday Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction had been carefully hidden, but he was confident they could be discovered.

"I have every belief that some of these weapons could be found as we move forward," Zebari, an Iraqi Kurd, told a news conference in Sofia. "They have been hidden in certain areas. The system of hiding was very sophisticated."

JOE, WE HARDLY KNEW YE

It's safe to say Joe Lieberman will not win the Democratic nomination. He's too sane. For a full explanation, I refer readers to my latest column.

Goodbye, Grandpa Joe
DAMN THOSE TRANSCRIPTERS AND VOICE RECORDING CONTRAPTIONS!

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."
President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998.

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998.

"Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face."
Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998.

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."
Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs."
Letter to President Clinton, signed by Sens. Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others Oct. 9, 1998.

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998.

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."
Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999.

"There is no doubt that . Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies."
Letter to President Bush, Signed by Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL,) and others, Dec, 5, 2001.

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them."
Sen. Carl Levin (d, MI), Sept. 19, 2002.

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002.

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002.

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seing and developing weapons of mass destruction."
Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002.

EXCELLENT.

Dear Americans,

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak my mind. I lost my job this past year. When Clinton was president I was secure and prosperous, but in the last year, we had to close our operations. We simply could not compete with foreign labor. This foreign labor worked for low pay under very bad conditions. They worked very long shifts, and many even died on the job. This competition could hardly be called "fair." I was forced out of the place where I had worked for 34 years. Not a single government program was there to help me. How can Bush call himself "compassionate?"

Far worse, I lost two of my sons in Bush's evil war in Iraq. They gave their lives for their country, and for what? So that Bush's oil buddies can get rich.

My pain of losing my sons is indescribable. While it is trivial next to the loss of my sons, I regret to say that I also lost my home. I simply have nothing left.

How can Bush call himself a Christian when he neglects people like me? I am a senior citizen with various medical problems. I'm not in a position where I can begin a new career. I was reduced to the point where I had to live in a hole in a ground, all because of President Bush. And when the authorities found me there, did they have any compassion for my misfortune and ailments? No, I was arrested.

Mr. Bush, I dare you to look me in the face and tell me you are a compassionate man! I dare you to look me in the face and tell me you are a Christian! If I had any money left, I would donate it to the Democrat Party. If Al Gore had been elected in 2000 I would still have a job, a home, and most importantly, my dear sons!

Regards,
Saddam Hussein

Kennedy's Disgraceful Display

Anyone who watched President Bush's 2004 State of the Union speech should have been outraged at the disgraceful display of indignance by Sen. A panel of economists is admitting that the last recession started in the last months of the Clinton administration, instead of the second that Bush took office. One more myth debunked, not that half of America will care. PRO-IRAQ WAR CLARK
"I've been very consistent... I've been against this war from the beginning," the former general said in Detroit on October 26. ... I was against it last summer, I was against it in the fall, I was against it in the winter, I was against it in the spring. And I'm against it now."

-Wes Clark

Less than 18 months ago, Wesley Clark offered his testimony before the Committee On Armed Services at the U.S. House Of Representatives.

"There's no requirement to have any doctrine here. I mean this is simply a longstanding right of the United States and other nations to take the actions they deem necessary in their self defense," Clark told Congress on September 26, 2002.

"Every president has deployed forces as necessary to take action. He's done so without multilateral support if necessary. He's done so in advance of conflict if necessary. In my experience, I was the commander of the European forces in NATO. When we took action in Kosovo, we did not have United Nations approval to do this and we did so in a way that was designed to preempt Serb ethnic cleansing and regional destabilization there. There were some people who didn' t agree with that decision. The United Nations was not able to agree to support it with a resolution."

Clark continued: "There' s no question that Saddam Hussein is a threat.... Yes, he has chemical and biological weapons. He's had those for a long time. But the United States right now is on a very much different defensive posture than we were before September 11th of 2001... He is, as far as we know, actively pursuing nuclear capabilities, though he doesn't have nuclear warheads yet. If he were to acquire nuclear weapons, I think our friends in the region would face greatly increased risks as would we."

More Clark: "And, I want to underscore that I think the United States should not categorize this action as preemptive. Preemptive and that doctrine has nothing whatsoever to do with this problem. As Richard Perle so eloquently pointed out, this is a problem that's longstanding. It's been a decade in the making. It needs to be dealt with and the clock is ticking on this."

In what political watchers are calling possibly the biggest gaffe in years, former Vice President Al Gore is set to give a speech tomorrow on the perils of global warming -- on what is expected to be the coldest day in New England in nearly half a century!

Against the advice of senior advisers, Gore is planning to appear at the historic Beacon Theatre in Manhattan on Thursday to issue an indictment of the Bush administration's 'inaction on global warming.'

Gore will make the warming case on a day forecasters are predicting the coldest temps in Boston since 1957, with wind chills in parts of New England plunging to 100 degrees below zero! "

Dean urged Clinton to take unilateral action in Bosnia

Democratic presidential contender Howard Dean, a strong critic of what he calls President Bush's unilateral approach to foreign policy, urged President Clinton to act unilaterally and enter the war in Bosnia in 1995.

"I have reluctantly concluded that the efforts of the United States and NATO in Bosnia are a complete failure," he wrote, citing reports of genocide during the Bosnian civil war. "If we ignore these behaviors ... our moral fiber as a people becomes weakened. ... We must take unilateral action."

1) "There was no imminent threat from Iraq, nor was Iraq connected with Al Qaeda." - Wes Clark, Jan 4, 2004

2) "No evidence thus far suggests any link between Saddam Hussein and the terrorists of Al Qaeda." - Wes Clar, in his book

3) "Certainly there's a connection between Iraq and Al Qaeda." - Wes Clark, 2002 - as reported by THE NEW YORK TIMES

Bike Paths Yes, Jews No (from the Wall St. Journal)
From Franklin Foer of The New Republic, here's another interesting tidbit about Howard Dean's church:

Last June, a sermon at Dean's own Congregationalist church blared, "The real violence is the violence of the occupation of Israel to over three million Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem."

Dean left an Episcopal church because he was outraged that it opposed a bike path. Is he untroubled that his current congregation does not view mass murder of Jewish civilians as "real violence"?

CLARK THE PSYCHIC

Gen. Wesley Clark, fresh out of the dressing rooms in his new argyle sweater, is guaranteeing Americans that a Clark administration ... sorry, give me a second, I'm holding down the bile ... would be free of any Sept. 11-style terrorist attacks.

"If I'm president of the United States, I'm going to take care of the American people," Clark said in a meeting with the Concord Monitor Online editorial board. "We are not going to have one of these incidents."

Should the population lose its collective mind and vote you in, Wes, we're gonna hold you to that.

COLOR US DUMB

This National Terror Alert deal gets the raised eyebrow from me. Whenever Tom Ridge announces we've bounced up to orange or down to yellow, I can't help but think how silly it all is. We're AT WAR AGAINST TERRORISTS. It only takes a phaser blast or the hairs standing up on Jean-Luc's neck for the good Starship Enterprise to go to red alert. As far as I'm concerned, we should've been on "red alert" since Sept. 11, 2001.

A LITTLE SAMPLE OF VARIOUS HOWARD DEANS

- Slamming Iowa Caucus: “If you look at the caucuses system, they are dominated by the special interests in both parties,” he said. “[And] the special interests don't represent the centrist tendencies of the American people. They represent the extremes. And then you get a president who is beholden to either one extreme or the other, and where the average person is in the middle.”

- Worries about Al Gore: “He has a lot of attributes, but … there are some things that I am concerned about. One of them is being quick on your feet. He is not.”

- George Bush: "George Bush, I believe, is in his soul a moderate." Dean now calls Bush a "radical."

- Republicans and affirmative action: Dean said Republicans who question race-based preferences are "out-and-out racists."

- On NAFTA: "I’m a little nervous about NAFTA. I was a big supporter four years ago. I’m worried about the condition of Mexican workers around the maquiladoras. And I had hoped that NAFTA would boost the Mexican standard of living."

- On terrorist group Hamas: [There] "will probably be good and bad" if Hamas takes control over the Palestinian leadership. Yasser Arafat, he said, "is going to leave the scene. ... When that happens, I think Hamas will probably take over. There will probably be good and bad out of that. The bad, of course, is that Hamas is a terrorist organization. However, if they have to run a quasi-state they may actually have to be more responsible and start negotiations. So who knows what will happen."

Which Howard Dean is the real Howard Dean? With so many flip-flops, it's hard to tell right now.

Howard Dean Slams Iowa Caucus and Calls Bush 'Moderate'
NOT A GIRL, NOT YET A WOMAN, BUT .... SATAN!!!

Two hilarious quotes from John Derbyshire over at National Review Online:

"Giving all possible benefit of the doubt to Britney Spears, though, I see nothing redeeming in her act. You can't even sing the songs yourself, or play them on air guitar. For this Buddy Holly died?"

"Listen: Britney Spears is an instrument of Satan. The poor girl has sold her soul, or had it stolen from her. That travesty of a marriage was not for nothing — it was a union in evil! Its issue will be the Antichrist, and the world will be his dominion. These are the Last Times. You have been warned."

FROM THE PARTY OF THE (BLACK) PEOPLE:

"Never in this world will I be convinced that race mixing in any field is good,... I am loyal to my country and know but reverence to her flag, but I shall never submit to fight beneath that banner with a Negro by my side. Rather, I should die 1,000 deaths, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels."

ONE OF ANN COULTER'S BEST
WHEN THEY were fund-raising, the Democratic candidates for president all claimed to be Jewish. Now that they are headed for Super Tuesday down South, they've become Jesus freaks. Listening to Democrats talk about Jesus is a little like listening to them on national security: They don't seem terribly comfortable with either subject.

To ease Democrats into the Jesus thing, the Democratic Leadership Council is holding briefings for Democratic candidates teaching them how to talk about religion. The participants were warned that millions of Americans worship a supreme being whose name is not Bill Clinton.

Couple sues Wal-Mart over broken grocery bag

from the PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW

A Mt. Pleasant Township couple wants Wal-Mart to pay for foot and toe injuries they claim were caused by canned goods and condiments that tumbled from an overfilled plastic grocery bag.

According to a two-count civil lawsuit filed Wednesday in Westmoreland County, Brenda and Ronald Sager contend a plastic bag they brought home from the East Huntingdon Township store last month was deficient and overstuffed.

The bag, which contained a 32-ounce jar of Miracle Whip, a 46-ounce bottle of ketchup, three 15-ounce cans of fruit, an 18-ounce bottle of ranch dressing and a 12-ounce bottle of mustard, broke open when the Sagers returned home and started to put away their groceries.

That's when the handle tore and the bottom of the bag broke, the Sagers claim.
