AN EXCERPT FROM CAMP KRAZY... I MEAN KERRY.

TERESA HEINZ KRAZY... ON THE STUMP:
Heinz Kerry singled out U.S. drug companies for gouging seniors, saying that if her husband were elected, he would lift the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ban on the importation of drugs from Canada.

“The president has said that you can’t trust the drugs coming in from Canada, well, there are a lot of things that you can’t trust,” Heinz Kerry said.

“If they (drug companies) want to keep the cost of drugs, up, let them,” she said. “We will play the market. That is what Americans do.”

She also criticized the commercial advertising of prescription drugs: “Personally, I think it creates a dilemma.”

It’s like cereal (advertising),” she said. “The more sugar, the more toys, the more kids want it.”

Heinz Kerry, who spoke in a humorous but rambling style, signed autographs after her 40-minute talk followed by a panel discussion of local supporters on the plight of the nation’s health under the Bush administration.

“I think it would be a great thing if we had a first lady like her,” said Renate Neumann, 65 and a Reno artist. “She is refreshing and honest. I like her better than her husband.”

Neumann said she liked that her English-born mother and Portuguese father raised Heinz Kerry in the African nation of Mozambique.

“I’m an immigrant, too, and I know many women don’t like her because of jealousy,” Neumann said. “She is wealthy and knowledgeable and all that. Buy you have to go beyond that and look at what effect she will have.”

Heinz Kerry’s call for health insurance for all children brightened the spirits of Aliena Anderson, 42, who said it gave her hope for the future. Both her and her husband lost jobs this year, losing their health insurance for their children.

“Having health care coverage for them now would immediately ease my mind,” Anderson said. “I’m looking forward to not having to worry about that in the future. It’s a very scary thing to not have insurance for them.”

Although Heinz Kerry took some questions from the audience, she did not speak to reporters after her talk because of a pending flight to Des Moines, Iowa, campaign officials said. She received standing ovations at the beginning and the end of her talk.

“If they cover the seniors citizens and children with the health plan, they will be doing something for this county that Bush never thought of doing,” said Barbara Stone, 65 of Reno.

Heinz Kerry ended with what she called “a highly effective” remedy for arthritis that drew laughter and some skepticism from the audience.

“You get some gin and get some white raisins — and only white raisins — and soak them in the gin for two weeks,” she said. “Then eat nine of the raisins a day.”

Sooner or later, the KRAZY comes out. - ptd
